Our History
On December 1, 1956, John "Butch" Schierl founded Schierl Inc. with the help of his father, Shorty Schierl. Upon graduating from Harvard, Butch returned to his hometown of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. There, he purchased a one-truck fuel oil business, Central Valley Oil, from the Copps Corporation for $650.00. He soon diversified from home heating oil delivery and expanded into commercial/residential HVAC contracting as well as service station ownership. Staying true to the Schierl family roots, the leadership of the organization was passed on to Butch’s three sons Tim, Fritz, and William in the late 1980s. Known fondly as “The Brothers”, they continue to lead the growth and success of Team Schierl Companies today.
Our Journey
Headquartered in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Team Schierl Companies has become not only a cornerstone of the local business sector, but also within the community at large. Since its founding in 1956, the organization has expanded and broadened throughout Central and Northern Wisconsin. A true pioneer of the service sector, Team Schierl Companies was the first to offer convenience-style gas stations in central Wisconsin and Goodyear tire and automotive centers in central Wisconsin. Currently, as Team Schierl Companies have evolved, they now operate 30 Subway Restaurants and offer rental facilities through our Commercial Leasing & Multifamily Residential Development division.
In addition to this, the company orchestrates a multitude of fundraising events throughout the year and supports numerous charities. Further contributing to local communities, Team Schierl Companies Charitable Giving Fund, held at the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, is a donor-advised fund focused on giving back to a variety of causes that positively impact our society. Over $5 million has been donated since 1990 with these efforts.
